1/18/22 – SHS v Cy Ridge 58-40 (W)

The Spartans headed into the week 5-0 in District and started the week on the road against Cy Ridge.  The boys had control of the game from beginning and ended won big 58-40.

1/21/22 – SHS v. Cy Fair – 52-45 (W)

The Spartans ended the week at home against the Cy Fair Bobcats.  The first meeting with the Bobcats, in a non-district game, the Spartans came out hot and built a 15-point lead but Cy Fair ultimately was able to wear the Spartans down and pulled out the win. 

The boys were ready for this rematch and knew this game would be key to the ultimate goal of winning district.  The Spartans came out in the first quarter and made a statement going on a 20-0 run against the Bobcats.  The high point of the run was a steal and then a HUGE fast break DUNK by Joaquin Andrews.  The Bobcats finally scored at the 1:45 mark of the quarter and the quarter ended with the Spartans up 22-3.

The boys continued to play hard in the 2nd quarter but as expected the Bobcats picked up their intensity and were able to slow the Spartan offense.  Cy Fair scored a few threes and closed the gap.  The Spartans went into halftime up 28-14.

The Spartans came out flat out of halftime.  Cy Fair picked up where the left off at the half with lots of energy.  With 4:35 left in the quarter the Bobcats had cut the lead to 8 at 32-24.  However, JD Cheeves gave the Spartans a lift with a HUGE DUNK in traffic.  A couple 3’s by Elliot Harlan and good defense at the end of the quarter and the Spartans were up 12 at 43-31 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The Spartans continued to maintain the 12 point lead through most of the quarter.  The Bobcats started pressing at the 2:30 mark but the Spartans were able to break it.  Nice playing by Rockwell Henderson and continued tight defense and the Spartans were up 13 with 15 seconds left.  Though the game never felt in jeopardy in the last quarter, a couple three point shots in the last seconds of the game cut the final lead to 7 making it appear closer than it was.  The Spartans won 52-45 and are now 7-0 in district.

The Spartans are back home this week playing Jersey Village on Wednesday at 4:00 and Spring Woods on Saturday at 9:00am.  Both games will be in the Competition gym.
