The first day of the Houston Cup was a good one for the girls soccer team.  Beautiful weather and a couple of wins kept us in the hunt to be tournament champs.

It was a challenge to put together three teams as we were missing several to injury, covid and club commitments but the girls really stepped up and played hard.

Game one saw the varsity lose to Ridge Point 0-1.  Due to the clock not working, the winning goal actually came AFTER the 40th minute but that happens sometimes.  The girls played great and fought the entire time.  Allison Zilafro was amazing in the goal and the defense, led by Cameron Ballard, were very solid.

Game 2 was an exciting game. The girls knew this would be a difficult match because this team beat Memorial already. The girls stayed strong and persevered to win the game 1-0. Game winning goal was assisted by Mia Thames and scored by Hope Coltrin. The defense held their positions and worked to keep Atascosita from scoring.

The third and final game of the Houston Cup came on a stormy day out in Deer Park playing against Brazoswood. The game started 1 hour late due to lightning and severe weather delays. The team played in the driving rain to tie Brazoswood 1-1. Lauren Ahearn scored our only point. The midfield and defense were working extremely hard to defend our goal but one got in after several attempts on our goal. The game was called at half due to more severe weather.

The JV split in two and got two great wins against Ridge Point! In this tournament, each team’s results count toward the championship so their wins were huge!  Goals were scored by Chasity Mandley, Claire Holcomb, Meagan Hallmark, Whitney Bui, and Cassidy Syamken.
