Stratford vs Cy-Creek (Tuesday January 11th)
Any concerns about the residue of the lost against Memorial the previous Friday, were dispelled when the team took the floor against a tough and gritty Cy-Creek team. The game was competitive from the opening tip to the last shot of the game. The team would use all of their strengths in this game: efficient shooting and passing; tough, tenacious, shut-down defense – steals, blocks all played a part in the Spartans victory in this contest.
Cy-Creek’s competiveness kept them close throughout the contest and the Spartans on their toes. The first quarter ended with the Spartans holding a slim lead 15 – 14. The efficient play continued through the 2nd period with the Spartans outscoring their opponent 13 – 8, leading to a half-time score of 28 – 22. Cy-Creek started the second half by matching the Spartans intensity and defensive toughness, by outscoring the Spartans 15 – 14 in the 3rd quarter and 11 – 10 in the 4th quarter. It was not enough to overcome the Spartans play in the 1st half and the Spartans won the contest with a final score of 52 – 48, and giving them a record of 13 – 1 heading into their contest against the Raiders of Northbrook High School.
