Girls Varsity Basketball:

It was a week of contrasts for the Girls Varsity team. On Tuesday, January 4th the Spring Woods Tigers came calling and went home with a 43-point loss. In the second quarter Stratford held the Tigers scoreless! The Spartans scored 65 in the rout, with the effort spread across most of the team. Freshman Aria Taylor led with 11 points. Seniors Audrey Hernandez and Kelsey Blackwood had 10 apiece. Sophomore Holly Horton and Senior Jazmine Green each had six.

Fortune did not favor the Spartans on Friday vs. Memorial. Nothing went the Spartans way while the shots just kept falling for the Mustangs in the loss. Points were hard to come by with Green leading all Spartans scorers with eight. Senior Bianca Pinal and Junior JaKyla Cheeves each had four.

Varsity is 3-2 in District and has the playoffs in their sights.

Girls JV Basketball:

The JV Spartans played possibly their best quarter of basketball this season at the most optimal time - the final period  against rival Memorial on Friday. Down four as the fourth quarter started, the Spartans poured in 15 and held the Mustangs to only five points to come out with a 35-29 victory. Sophomore Kendall Zoboroski had eight points in the fourth and 12 overall to pace the team. Junior Lilah Epps had eight points and freshman Ella O'Connor had five. Sophomore Evynn Stallwitz was a big asset in the fourth with a huge block, rebound and two crucial baskets.

Spring Woods was down 12-0 in the first quarter and 30-4 at halftime and it was over as the Spartans rolled 52-13 on

Tuesday, January 4. Epps had nine points and Zoboroski, O'Connor and sophomore Lali Vega each had six.

Girls Freshman Basketball:

The future of the Spartans program looks bright with talented young players including Rachel Ashby and Aria Taylor, freshman who are getting significant court time on the varsity team, and JV's O'Connor, also a freshman. Despite their absence on the freshman team, the wins are mounting for the youngest Spartans after they knocked off Memorial 49-42 and waxed Spring Woods 55-7.

Similar to JV, the Freshman entered the fourth quarter down by three points, but Turned. It. On. the rest of the game, outscoring Memorial 21-11 down the stretch. Emily Graydon knocked in two three-pointers in the fourth and finished with 10 points for the game. Megan Hallmark lead the team with 12 points and Sophia Phongsey scored nine.

Judging by the stat sheet, the whole team did their best to score in the first quarter against Spring Woods. Seven different players put the ball through the hoop en route to a 22-2 lead. Twice the Spartans held the Tigers scoreless in a quarter. Gretchen Loveless, Kendall Davis and Graydon each scored eight points and Katherine Cronin added six. Final score was 55-7.
