Varsity – Week of 1/3/22

1/4 - SHS v. Spring Woods - 51-31 (W)

The Spartans started the week on the road against the Spring Woods Tigers.  The Tigers fans were ready for the boys and did all they could to get into their heads.  The Spartans started a bit slow but kept up their energy and continued to move the ball around on offense.  Though we only scored 22 in the first half to the Tigers 10, those points were spread among 7 different players with no one player dominating the half.

The Spartans came out in the 2nd half and ultimately took control of the game.  There was never a doubt the boys would come away with the win.  The final score was 51-31.

  • Leading scorers: Keanu Dawes – 13pts; Paul Skoutelakis – 7pts; Luke Hatcher and Triston Williams with 6 pts each.
  • Leading rebounders: L. Hatcher – 12 reb; K. Dawes – 6 rebs

1/7 – SHS v. Memorial – 63-42 (W)

The Spartans took on the Mustangs at Don Coleman Coliseum this past Friday night.  Though this technically was an away game, the Spartans clearly had the home court advantage.  Our student body and Spartan fans showed up BIG on Friday to support the boys and they were not disappointed.  The Spartans came out strong having their 2nd best quarter of the season scoring 26 points in the 1st  to the Mustangs 9 points.  The Spartans ended the quarter on a 16-2 run spurred in large part by Caden Francis’ and Everett Bates’ strong 3-point scoring.

The Mustangs were not going to go down without a fight and rallied in the 2nd quarter pulling the game within 10 at half time.  The Spartans went into the half up 35-25.

Though the Spartans always felt in control of the game during the 2nd half especially due in part to the strong 2nd half performance of Triston Williams, the Mustangs did pull within 6 during the 3rd period.  Ultimately, the Spartans went into the last quarter up 49-38 and took over full control of the game during the 4th pulling out a big win over the Mustangs 63-42.

Game stats:

  • T. Williams – 21pts; 8 rebs; 3 stls
  • C. Francis – 12pts; 1 reb; 2 asts
  • L. Hatcher – 9pts; 5 rebs; 1 blk
  • E. Bates – 9pts; 4 asts
  • K. Dawes – 6 pts; 6 rebs; 6 asts; 2 blks
  • Cameron Cronin, Hawkins Polley; Keshaun Bell – 2pts each

The Spartans are now 2-1 in district and will be back at home this week against a tough Cy Creek team on Tuesday and Northbrook on Friday.  Both games are at 7:00.  Come out and show your support and watch a really fun basketball team play!
