SHS 9A v Bridgeland – 11/16/21

The Freshman A team for the 2021-2022 include the following boys:

Joaquin Andrews, Jadarrion Cheeves, Vasili Fakaris, Logan Hatcher, Elliot Harlan, Rockwell Henderson, Richard Jackson, Parker Johnson, Kolton Kurek, Jake Lovoi, Devin Moore and Jaedon Morris.

The Freshman A team beat the Bridgeland Bears in their first home game of season.  After a tough loss to Cinco Ranch the previous Friday, the boys came out aggressive in the first half of the game holding the Bears to just 5 points with 5 minutes in the half.  The boys played excellent defense and moved the ball well on offense and ultimately closed out the half with a score of 27-11. 

The second half started with the Bears putting on the press against the Spartan and they were able to get their offense going a bit.  Though the lead never felt in danger, Bridgeland did pull within 11 late in the 3rd quarter after going on a bit of a run.  However, Fakaris ended their run with a huge three and never looked back.  A number of big steals by Johnson and Cheeves helped throw them off their game as well and the A team never look back winning the game with the final score of 55-39.

SBISD Freshman A Tournament (11/18/21 and 11/20/21)

SHS 9A v. Northbrook

The A team played two games at Stratford, the Thursday before the holiday, to start off pool play in the SBISD Freshman A tournament.  The Spartans had no problem with the Northbrook Raiders rolling to a 63-11 win in the first pool game.

SHS 9A v. Humble

The second pool game on that Thursday against Humbel provided the A team with a bit more competition but the Spartan were able to pull away in the second half and won easily with a score of 54-39.

SHS 9A v. Cinco Ranch

The championship game was played on Saturday, the 20th at Memorial High School against Cinco Ranch.  This was an opportunity for the Spartans to redeem themselves after losing their first game of the season to Cinco Ranch.  A game where they held the lead for the majority of the game only to give up the lead in the last minute of the game.  However, in the championship game it was Cinco that held the lead at both halftime 22-19 and going into the last minute of the half of the game.  Cinco was up 35-33 with 1:45 left in the game.  Cheeves tied up the game at 35.  After holding Cinco, at the other end of the court, Andrews got the ball at the top of the key and started to drive in but kicked it out to Jackson who drained a 3-point giving the Spartan the 38-35 win and the championship!

SHS 9A v Cy Park – 11/23/21

The Freshman A boys played Cy Park over the Thanksgiving break. Though it was an early game the boys came out ready to play.  All the boys contributed to a good team win over Cy Park beating them 52-41.
