The Lady Spartans varsity basketball team came out ready to play Tuesday night and got their first win of the season in a blowout fashion, topping Clements 58-31 on Tuesday night. Jasmine Green's energy and intensity helped her lead the team with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 7 steals. Audrey Hernandez added eight points and Holly Horton was a presence in the post, contributing seven points and five rebounds.

Thursday the Varsity took that momentum to the C.E. King Tournament where they first faced Houston Madison. It was a back and forth affair into halftime but the Spartans came out firing in the second half, with sharp-shooter Hernandez hitting four from the beyond the arc and leading the team with 16 points in a 65-42 victory. Green and JaKyla Cheeves scored 12 apiece.

The Spartans returned to the court the same evening with Cheeves and Green leading a defensive charge vs. Porter that held the opposition to only 20% shooting efficiency and 30 points. Cheeves continued her strong night with 11 points, three rebounds and four steals in the 35-30 win. Hernandez added 11 points and three rebounds and Green peppered the stat sheet with five points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.

Friday the Varsity team took the court against an aggressive and athletic 4-0 Aldine Nimitz. The Spartans came out on fire hitting four of their first five shots. Nimitz jumped into a full court press, rattling the Spartans and tying up the game. From there no team could garner a lead greater than five. With 15 seconds left in the game, Nimitz was down by three with the ball. They ran a misdirection play for their top guard who knocked down the shot to send it into overtime. The score see-sawed in OT and with nine seconds remaining and Nimitz ahead by one, the Spartans went the length of the court with Maggie Parker receiving the ball with two seconds left on the clock. Parker pulled up and knocked down a short corner shot at the buzzer for the win, 41-40! The final basket gave Parker a team high 13 points plus six rebounds. Hernandez had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Green contributed six points plus eight off the glass.

Saturday’s game vs. Klein was a defensive battle with neither team able to score over 30 points. Cheeves' stellar defensive efforts helped hold Klein’s best player well below her point average, but the Spartans fell by two, 30-28 and finished the tournament with three wins vs. one loss. Hernandez opened up things on the offensive end for the Spartans hitting two three's and leading with 11 points overall. Green had 12 rebounds. The Lady Spartans will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 15 at Fort Bend Austin at 5:30pm.

The JV team is undefeated after crushing Clements 59-25 on Tuesday. Ella O’Connor led the team in scoring with 10 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals. Kendall Zoboroski and Ryen Greenwood each had nine points, Lilah Epps added eight points and six rebounds, and Citlali Vega brought hustle and garnered a big night with eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. The JV is currently not scheduled to take the floor again until Nov. 22 at 9a at Stratford.

The Freshmen earned their first victory as Spartans in a dominating 64-13 fashion vs. Clements on Tuesday. Katherine Cronin led with14 points and Chassity Mandley added 10. Kendall Davis led the team with 12 rebounds. An intense team defensive effort kept the opposition from ever getting any scoring rhythm and also produced a plethora of points off turnovers. Next game is Monday, Nov. 15 at Fort Bend Austin.
