Its hard to win when the opposition seemingly just can’t miss a shot. The Stratford Women’s Basketball season opened with a non-conference game at Cy-Woods on Friday, November 5th. The game was close in the early going, but Spartan turnovers and the Wildcats making the most of scoring opportunities proved to be too much with the final 74-38. The Spartans were led by Audrey Hernandez with 14 points and four rebounds. Jasmin Green was strong on the glass with 14 rebounds and eight points. JaKyla Cheeves dropped in seven points and Holly Horton brought down five rebounds. The Spartans host their first home game of the season on Friday,  Nov. 9 vs. Fort Bend Clements at 7p.

JV Coach Audrisa Harrison is undefeated as a Spartan. Harrison is 1-0 after her first official game as Head Coach Alexis Green's newest addition to the program. The JV team won 38-36 vs. Cy-Woods in a frenzied back and forth game that saw Stratford jump out to a 7-1 lead before allowing the Wildcats to take over 21-17 at halftime. Coach Harrison turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and the opposition wilted. The Spartans tied the game at 25 off a defensive rebound and pass by Kendall Zoboroski to Ryan Greenwood. The lead stretched to three with six minutes in the game off an assist from Lilah Epps to Zoboroski at 30-27. The Wildcats made a late charge but a fast break score by Zoboroski with 1:25 to play was the winning margin. Zoboroski contributed 16 points and four steals. Epps had 10 points, 12 steals and four rebounds. Evan Stallwitz, Ella O'Connor, Ella Pezzia  and Greenwood made big contributions to the win. The JV team next travels to the C.E. King Tournament Nov. 11-13.

The Stratford fresh took the court at Cy-Woods for the first time as Spartans and their eagerness and excitement were evident, but they weren’t able to channel that into the performance they wanted, falling 41-16. Kendall Davis filled up the stat-sheet for Coach Green with four points, eight rebounds and six steals. Chassity Mandley also had four points plus four steals. Its going to be fun to watch this group of ladies grow and mature into this season and over the next few years as they become JV and then Varsity leaders of the program. The next game is also at the C.E. King Tournament Nov. 11-13.
