Varsity had two home games this week. After falling to a strong Kingwood squad on Tuesday, the team started District playing hosting 2020 District runners up Cy Fair, a team that had swept Varsity last season. A packed house of fans and cheerleaders were present to root on the Spartans, who were finally back at full strength.
The match swung back and forth with each team exchanging leads during each set. Cy Fair won the first and third sets and Stratford answered each time winning the second and fourth.
In the deciding fifth set, Varsity held the lead five points away from victory before a last minute run earned Cy Fair the win. Cy Fair looks to be one of the top teams in District again this year, and if Friday night’s match is any indication, Stratford will be right in the thick of things.
Thank you to boys and girls soccer teams and boys basketball team for their vocal support on Friday, and to girls basketball head coach Alexis Green for being the most enthusiastic ticket taker ever. Additional special thanks to coach’s Brett Nixon, Austin Kent, Josh Hall, Mark Wallace, Cody Schwartz, Scott Elmore, and Todd Rankin, and former SHS head volleyball coach Becky Palermo for their support this week. Finally, a huge shout out to Principal Barnes for help warming up the freshman teams and his support during the home matches.
