Varsity

The Spartans Cross Country team traveled to Pearland Dawson on Saturday morning for the Willam D. Sirmon Invitational 2 meet, and both the girls and boys varsity squads earned first place team trophies.

Senior Emanuel Galdino cruised to an easy victory in the boys race, but Maddox Durnell was only a few steps behind to secure 2nd place overall.  David Kalwahali, Zach Tobin, and Jackson Potter finished 4th, 7th, and 11th respectively to earn top-15 medals, and all eight of the varsity boys finished top-25 out of 77 runners competing.

On the girls side, the Spartans beautifully executed the concept of “pack running” and steamrolled to the finish line in a big wave of green and white uniforms.  Niamh Collins, Allison Goodwin, Allie Weinhardt, Anastasia Sciretti, Megan Broom, Siena Yoder and Maggie Pearce earned top-15 medals by finishing 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 14th respectively, and Ola Jalal was only one spot out of medal contention with a 16th place finish. Overall, the girls had eight runners finish in the top-20 out of 72 runners competing.

Sub-Varsity

Both the JV girls and JV boys were 5th place in the team results, and the Freshman boys brought home first place.

In the JV girls race, Amelia Bommer earned a medal by finishing 2nd place overall, as did Justin Kaimann and Jean Choi in the JV boys race by finishing 7th and 9th, respectively.

Earning medals for the Freshman boys were Ben Pearce (1st), Nathan Hirst (2nd), Brody James (5th) and Samuel Jordan (10th).

Next up is “Friday Night Lights” in The Woodlands on Friday evening, August 27th.  All Stratford teams will compete and the meet will culminate with the girls and boys varsity races contested

under the lights at Bear Branch Park against many of the top high school teams across South Central Texas.

Looking ahead several weeks, mark your calendar for the Spartans’ first “home” meet when they will compete in the SBISD Invitational at Nottingham Park on Saturday morning, Sept 18th.  Varsity races will start at 7:30am.
