Round 1 of Playoffs vs. Bellaire

Last Weekend the Spartans Varsity Baseball team won a fantastic 3 Game series in the first round of playoffs against the #1 seed Bellaire.  Game 1 (on Friday night) was a pitcher’s duel with Stratford coming out on top 2-1 in front of a packed crowd at the Backyard.  Mark Perkins pitched his best game to date (getting the win) pitching 5.2 IP, 3H, 1R, 1BB, 10Ks.  Paxton Terveen came in for some fantastic relief work pitching 1.1 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K.  In the bottom of the 4th Perkins was hit by a pitch and then Luke Rives was walked.  Luis Camargo stepped up and hit a hard ground ball to center scoring 2 Runs which would ultimately be the deciding runs.  William Kight and Keegan Lynn got the only other 2 hits we had that night.

Game 2 and 3 were played on Saturday as a Double Header at Butler Stadium in Bellaire.  Game 2 resulted in a disappointing 7-8 loss.  Leo Maass started on the mound pitching 1 inning.  Terveen came in and pitched 4 IP, 6H, 4R, 0BB, 2K.  Thomas Cloud, Josh Brand, Luke Broussard and Keegan Lynn all did some relief work but ultimately, we couldn’t close the game out and Bellaire came out with the win forcing a deciding game 3.

Game 3 the boys ended on top 9-2!  Pierce Cohen started on the mound, also having his best game to date, (getting the win) pitching 5 IP, 3H, 2R, 3BB, 2K.  Cloud came in to do relief work pitching 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 0K.  With the score 1-1 In the top of the 5th Everett Bates singled followed by a double by Cameron Donley.  Cade Alpard hit a clutch single to right field scoring both Keaton Klasing (courtesy runner for Bates) and Harris Ranger (courtesy runner for Donley) to start the 5 run inning which the boys never looked back from.  Rives, Perkins, and Camargo all had hits in that inning.  Perkins went 3-4, Camargo went 2-4, Donley went 2-4 with 2 doubles.  And let’s not forget Ford Lancaster’s diving catch to end the game!!!  It was a long day of baseball but we ended victorious and get to move on to round 2 against Katy Tompkins.

Round 2 of Playoffs vs. Katy Tompkins

Game 1 was played on Wednesday night at Katy Tompkins.  It did not go as we had hoped with us losing but the boys did not give up!  They came back on Thursday night at the Backyard fired up and ready to take the series to Game 3!  What a game 2 it was!  It was another pitcher’s duel with our pitchers coming out with the 2-1 victory.  Mark Perkins started on the mound pitching another phenomenal game with 5 IP, 5H, 1 R, 1BB, 8K.  Paxton Terveen came in as relief (getting the win) with 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K.  Cade Alpard got things started offensively with his base hit quickly to be followed by Cameron Donley’s RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the 6th Tompkins tied it up.  In the Bottom of the 7th Mark Perkins walked putting the winning run on first.  The pitcher then overthrew the 1st basemen allowing Harris Ranger (Courtesy Runner for Perkins) to advance to 3rd.  Keegan Lynn stepped to the plate hitting a clutch single to right field for the Walk Off RBI!!!!!
