Varsity Update

The Spartan Varsity Baseball had to wait until Saturday to finish out the series against Cy Creek.  What started out as a close game, ended with a dynamic 14-5 finish.  Josh Brand started the game on the mound pitching 3IP, 3H, 2R, 2BB, 4K.  Paxton Terveen came in as relief pitching 3IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K.  Keaton Klasing and Luke Broussard teamed up to close out the 7th inning with a combined 1 IP, 0H, 3R, 2BB, 1K.  Keegan Lynn tied the game in the 2nd inning with his 2 run Homerun!  He would then light the match that gave the boys the spark we needed with his solo Homerun in the top of the 6th inning.  Lynn went 5-5 with 2 HR, Double and Singles. Luis Camargo would immediately follow with a Homerun of his own making the game 4-2.  The boys carried that momentum into the 7th scoring 10 runs off hits from Mark Perkins, Lynn (2B), Camargo, Ford Lancaster, Cade Alpard, William Kight and Tab Tracy.

The start of the series against Jersey Village did not go as we had hoped on Tuesday night.  We ended the game in extra innings with a 5-9 loss.  Paxton Terveen started on the mound pitching 2IP, 2H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2K as well as going 2-4, 2B, RBI.  Other offensive standouts were Luis Camargo 2-4, Ground rule double, RBI, SB, Cade Alpard 2-3, 2B, Luke Rives, 2-4, RBI, SB, William Kight 2-4, SB, and Mark Perkins with a 2B.  The boys look for revenge this Friday night at 7:00 at the Backyard.

JV Update

The Stratford Spartans JV team had to withstand over an hour-long rain delay and settled for a single game contest on Wednesday, April 14th.   The Spartans won in convincing fashion 12-1 in five innings while improving to 6-1 in district play.  Thomas Cloud, Cade Hanlen, and Cooper Sands combined for 9 strikeouts while only allowing 1 run. Leading the offensive attack was Luke Barre, Maddox Garnero, and Patrick Johnson with 2 hits a piece.  Others collecting hits were John White, Cloud and Carter Looney.

The team traveled to Klein Cain for a non-district matchup versus the current runner-up program in 15-6A and breezed to an 8-3 victory in chilly conditions on Saturday.  Pierce Cohen and Brecken Menuet limited the Hurricanes to three runs and six hits.  Leading the offensive attack were Garnero going 3-3 with 2 2B and 4 RBI. Others joining the hit parade were Braxton Wakefield, Menuet, and Cohen.  The Spartans improved to 13-4-2 on the season.

The boys played again Wednesday night at Jersey Village.  Results to come next week.

Sophomore Update:

A lot of offense and great pitching went into both of our games vs Cy Creek last week! Christian Ramirez 4 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 10 Ks.  Kyle Miller 4 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 7 Ks.  Offensively, Cooper Harrison lead the group going 3-4 with 1 RBI and 2 Runs scored.  Johnny Crawford, Luke Covington, Rian Healy, and Travis Jones all got 2 hits.  Tim Winter also reached base 5 out of 6 times and scored 5 runs. We won the first game 11-0 and the second game 14-1.

On Saturday the offense continued to shine as we put up 11 runs in the game against Klein Cain.  Caleb Medlock had a big 2 RBI triple.  Tim Winter was also 1-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 BBs.  Matthew McDuffie started the game and pitched well going 3 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks.  In the last inning, we struggled to get 3 outs and Cain was starting to come back.  They had bases loaded with 2 out and the tying run at 3rd.  We brought in Walker Sage aka “Walkie Slush” and he got the save with a clutch strikeout allowing us to win the game 11-10.

The boys played Wednesday night against Jersey Village.  Scores of that game coming next week.
