Stratford Spartans Varsity Holds Onto Victory as Memorial Almost Erases 6-Run Deficit

Stratford Spartans Varsity got out to a six-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for an 8-7 victory over Memorial on Tuesday.  Memorial scored five runs in the failed comeback on a walk by Brianna Ellis, a single by Megan Taylor, a walk by Isabel Heckler, and an error.

Stratford Spartans Varsity earned the victory despite allowing Memorial to score five runs in the fifth inning.  Memorial's big inning was driven by walks by Ellis and Heckler, a single by Taylor, and an error on a ball put in play by Camille Lafferty.

Stratford Spartans Varsity got things started in the second inning when Kirby Crow singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Stratford Spartans Varsity scored five runs in the fourth inning.  The rally was led by singles by Megan Zatopek and Lauren Rose and a walk by Madison Morrow.

Saleyna Daniel got the start for Stratford Spartans Varsity. The righthander surrendered seven runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out eight.

Presley Kolb was in the circle for Memorial. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out one and walking zero.  Mia Garza threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Stratford Spartans Varsity tallied 11 hits on the day.  Zatopek, Crow, and Daniel each managed multiple hits for Stratford Spartans Varsity.  Daniel, Crow, and Zatopek each managed two hits to lead Stratford Spartans Varsity.
