On Friday and Saturday, February 14th-15th, the state-qualified athletes competed in the prelims/finals (top 16 in prelims) State Meet in Austin.

This is no easy task as Texas is filled with extremely talented swimmers and divers. The swimmers that qualified for State were Emma Venghaus, Max Zuanich, Luke Reed, Henry Genez, and Keagan Firenza. Sam Jones was the lone diving qualifier. We are very proud of our Stratford athletes for achieving this level of success and know they had a great time in Austin! Highlights include:

•  Max Zuanich finished 10th in the 100 back with a time of 50.49 and 14th in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.97.

• Emma Venghaus finished 18th in the 100 back with a time of 57.76.

• The boys’ 200 Medley Relay finished 5th with Zuanich (back), Reed (breast), Genez (fly), and Firenza (free). This same powerful crew finished 11th in the 200 free relay. Next year’s team will definitely miss Reed, Genez, and Firenza, who are all graduating seniors. It sure was fun to watch you all season!

• Sam Jones finished 22nd in 1 mtr diving with a score of 229.60.

That’s a wrap on the Stratford swim and dive seasons. Congratulations to all the Spartan swimmers and divers for all their hard work and early mornings all season long!
