Food Bank Challenge Swim/Dive Meet

On Wednesday, November 13, the swimmers and divers attended the Food Bank Challenge Meet at the SBISD Natatorium. The athletes collected canned goods all week and the amount of food collected was impressive and will help so many!

This was a fun meet to watch with more sprint events and mixed kick board, T-shirt, and water polo relays. Amidst the fun, two swimmers were able to get their qualifying times for the Southern Zones TISCA Meet, taking place in San Antonio on December 6th and 7th: Artemisa De Jager in the 200 free and Eric Jackson in the 100 free. Way to go, Artemisa and Eric!

The divers once again had a great showing with Robbie Howell and Sam Jones finishing 2nd and 3rd, and Vivianne Cornell taking 4th place for the girls.

Top 3 finishes in swimming include:

• 200 Medley Relay: Girls finished 1st with Caroline Oteiza (back), Meggie Nop (breast), Jordan Kennedy (fly), and Gwendolyn Beach (free). Boys finished 2nd with Parker Kooyman (back), Kyle Brown (breast), Eric Jackson (fly), and Jonathan Horton (free).

• 200 Free Relay: Boys finished 1st with Tyler Barber, Kyle Brown, Lowell Moss, and Bryce Oliphant. Girls finished 2nd with Artemisa De Jager, Caroline Smith, Ashley Cardin, and Eleanore Williams.

• 200 free: Artemisa De Jager finished 1st for the girls. Grant Spargo finished 3rd for the boys.

• 100 IM: The girls took the top 3 spots with Gwendolyn Beach (1st), Leah Easton (2nd), and Grace Stern (3rd). Similarly, the boys dominated with Luke Reed (1st), Henry Genez (2nd), and Gavin Beach (3rd).

• 50 free: Ava Wylie placed 1st for the girls. For the boys, it was Callum Glover (1st) and Charlie Williams (2nd).

• 100 free: Ashley Cardin placed 3rd.

• 50 fly: Leah Easton placed 1st for the girls. Callum Glover and Lucas Groves finished 2nd and 3rd for the boys.

• 50 back: Artemisa De Jager and Caroline Oteiza finished 1st and 3rd for the girls. Andrew Askounis finished 1st for the boys.

• 50 breast: For the girls, Gwendolyn Beach placed 1st and Eleanore Williams placed 3rd. The boys dominated the top 3 spots with Gavin Beach (1st), Jack Brennan (2nd), and Lowell Moss (3rd).

The swim and dive teams will have a short break from meets while continuing to train hard over the Holidays to prepare for the upcoming Southern Zones TISCA Meet, a qualifying meet taking place in San Antonio on December 6th and 7th. Let’s go, Spartans
