March 8th update:
JV – 3/3/10
Stratford 15 Alief Taylor 0
The JV softball again went out to the field ready to continue their winning streak against Alief Taylor
winning 15-0. Again there was another strong defensive stand with Stephanie Montemayor pitching
2 innings with 9 strike outs and Holly Heckman coming in to pitch the third inning with 2 strikeouts.
The only ball that was put in play by Alief Taylor was a pop up to third which Karly Shimerka caught
without problems. Again our offense was on fire. The players were very patient at the plate and
wound up with numerous walks for Holly Heckman, Marissa Jensen, Amanda Hammons, Layne
Miller, Karly Shimerka, Taylor Friedman, Janie Garnier and Ashley Sherrard. A couple players
including Stephanie Montemayor, Shannon Wissel and Gabby Cardenas took one for the team to get
on base. Macey Smith and Shelby Wilson were 2-3 and Victoria Miller was 2-2 for the night. Marissa
Jenson also had 5 stolen bases. The JV's next game will be on 3/5 against Memorial.
JV – 3/5/10
Stratford 0 Memorial 0
The JV team again came out fighting against the Memorial JV Friday night, but the game ended up
being a pitcher’s duel ending in an 0 to 0 tie. Macey Smith pitched four innings with 11 strike outs,
one hit and one walk. Our offense struggled during the game. The first inning Shelby Wilson, Janie
Garnier and Macey were unable to get the ball in play. The second inning Layne Miller hit a double
and Victoria Miller placed down a great bunt to move her to third. Unfortunately, the girls were unable
to get her home. Again in a later inning, Amanda Hammons walked, Shannon Wissel singled but
again we could not score. Unfortunately, even with another hit by Layne and a second perfect
sacrifice bunt by Victoria we ended the game in an tie with no runs scored. Our defense did a great
job staying on their toes and ready at all times including Karly Shimerka, Stephanie Montemayor,
Taylor Friedman, Ashley Sherrard, Gabby Cardenas and Holly Heckman.
March 1st update:
February 26th
Stratford 12 Nimitz 0
The JV Softball Team was ready to come out and play hard last Friday night beating Nimitz 12-0.
Defense was lead by Macey Smith and Holly Heckmann. Macey pitched 2 innings of hitless ball with
6 strikeouts and Holly entered in the third inning and faced 4 batters with 3 strikeouts. The offense
was on fire with numerous hits all the way down the line up, scoring 4 runs in the first inning, 3 in the
second and 5 in the third. Marissa Jenson had a triple with 2 RBI's in the first inning and Amanda
Hammons also had an extra base hit with a double in the first. Holly Heckman, Macey Smith, and
Shelby Wilson were 2-3. Layne Miller, Taylor Friedman, Shannon Wissel, Karly Shimerka, Stephanie
Montemayor, Victoria Miller, Ashley Sherrard, Gabby Cardenas, and Janie Garnier all had great at
bats with singles or balls put in play. The next game will be Monday 3/1 against Alief Taylor.
February 19th Update:
