January 21st update:
Lady Spartans hold off Klein Oak and are crowned
I-10 shootout Champions.
After tying Cy-fair 0-0 and defeating La Porte 4-0 the Lady Spartans took their undefeated record into
Rhodes Stadium on Friday January 16th. In mid 40 degree weather in 12-16mph winds with rain
the Lady Spartans shutout the Deer Park team 5-0. The Lady Spartans held Deer Park without a
shot on goal. Advancing to the next round the Lady Spartans went up 5-0 after a penalty kick by
Rihana Devany. Resting players for the next game the Lady Spartans posted an impressive 7-3
victory. In the Championship game Saturday afternoon the Lady Spartans faced fellow undefeated
Klein Oak. The Spartans led by Strong Defensive play by Rihana Devany and Dina Baassiri went
into the half up 1-0 after a late goal by Forward Ashley Romero. The second half proved to be a
defensive match up , after 79 minutes and 18 seconds of play Langham Creek squeaked one by
Goalie Allie Picone who had a 5 game shutout streak broken. The score with 42 seconds left forced
a shoot out to determine the winner. After 10 shooters the Lady Spartans broke the tie and
celebrated a hard fought victory over Klein Oak. Outstanding play defensively by Allie Picone and
Rhiana Devany led the way to the Spartan victory along with good offensive play by Ashley Romero,
Romina Jara, and Emma Koydemir. Congratulations Lady Spartans on an impressive tournament
win. Even with a tournament championship trophy in hand Coach Erin Fuller kept the team focused
on the next game an impressive 3-0 win over Montgomery on Tuesday January 19th. The Lady
Spartans improve to a 6-0-1 record.
Lady Spartans shut out Morton Ranch to open the Soccer Season
In their first scrimmage the Stratford JV Lady Spartans soccer team shut out Morton Ranch 2-0.
Strong defense held Morton Ranch to 3 total shots on goal. Spartan Sweeper Rihana Devany led
the Spartan Defense in an impressive defensive display limiting offensive chances to 3 shots on
goal. Spartan goals by #3 Kara Manning assisted by #21 Emma Koydemirand and #11 Chandler
Callahan assisted by #5 Hayley Gibler and #21 Emma Koydemirand. Late in the game #15 Katie
Clark drew a penalty in the box to give Morton Ranch their best scoring chance, but the indirect kick
sailed harmlessly out of bounds.
