| November 12th update: STRATFORD JV 21 STRAKE JESUIT JV 14 Strake Jesuit started with the ball and drove almost the length of the filed before settling for a field goal. The score was Strake Jesuit JV 3 Stratford JV 0 where it remained for the remainder of the first quarter. The Spartans got on the board midway through the second quarter with a 74 yard touchdown run by Gerrod Bergen. The point after was blocked and the score was Stratford JV 6 Strake Jesuit JV 3. With time running out in the second quarter, Strake Jesuit scores on a 59 touchdown run. The two point conversion was good and the score at halftime was Strake Jesuit JV 11 Stratford JV 6. Both teams had the ball a couple of times in the third quarter with neither team scoring. Early in the fourth quarter, Strake Jesuit kicks another field goal and the score was Strake Jesuit JV14 Stratford JV 6. On Stratford’s next possession, Tim Burton broke loose for a 56 yard touchdown run. Tim Burton also scored on the two point conversion and the score was Stratford JV 14 Strake Jesuit JV 14. The Spartan defense got tough on Strake Jesuit’s next possession and forced them to punt. Gerrod Bergen then broke loose for a 45 yard run down to the Stake Jesuit 5 yard line. Two plays later Bergen found the end zone again. The PAT by Mackie Hirsch was good and the score was Stratford JV 21 Strake Jesuit JV 14. Once again the Stratford defense held Strake Jesuit and took the ball over on downs. Stratford then ran out the clock preserving the victory. Final score Stratford JV 21 Strake Jesuit JV 14. October 28th update: STRATFORD JV 28 SPRING WOODS JV 6 On Spring Woods’ opening drive, they fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Alex Aquirre of Stratford on the Spring Woods 49 yard line. On the next play, Tim Burton ran for a 49 yard touchdown. PAT by Mackie Hirsch was good and the score was Stratford JV 7 Spring Woods JV 0. Stratford then kicked off to Spring Woods. They went three and out and had to punt. Garrett Jones returned the punt 33 yards from the Spring Woods 40 down to their seven yard line. Tim Burton then ran the ball in from there for the touchdown. On the first Stratford drive of the second half, Tim Burton broke a run for a 50 yard touchdown. Spring Woods finally got on the board in the fourth quarter with a touchdown. After a missed extra point the score was Stratford JV 28 Spring Woods JV 6. There was no more scoring for the rest of the game, but notable highlights were a 45 yard punt return by Derrick Austin and hard hit by Kelvin Rainey causing a Spring Woods fumble. October 21st update: STRATFORD JV 40 NORTHBROOK JV 0 Stratford struck first, when barely a minute into the game, Aaron Martin connected with Tim Burton on a 75 yard touchdown pass. PAT was good by Mackie Hirsch. The score was Stratford JV 7 Northbrook JV 0. On the ensuing kickoff, Josh Weatherall made the big hit of the day crushing the Northbrook kick returner on their own 35 yard line. Northbrook went three plays and out and punted to the Spartans. Tim Burton returned the punt 60 yards for another touchdown. PAT by Mackie Hirsch was good and the score was Stratford JV 14 Northbrook JV 0. Stratford kicks off to Northbrook and they return the kickoff to their 39 yard line. On the next play Northbrook fumbles the ball and Stratford’s Kevin Vallejo recovers the ball. Tim Burton then scores his third touchdown of the night with a 39 yard run. PAT failed and the score was Stratford JV 20 Northbrook JV 0. Northbrook again goes three and out and punts to Stratford. After a 33 yard run by Tim Burton, Aaron Martin hits Michael Kelly on a 29 yard touchdown pass. In their first possession of the second quarter Stratford takes over in Northbrook territory. Aaron Martin picks up 13 yards on a run, before throwing a 23 yard touchdown pass to Mackie Hirsch. After going three and out they punt the ball to Garrett Jones who returns the punt 55 yards for another Stratford touchdown. The rest of the game Stratford concentrated on running the clock out with a strong ground game behind an impressive offensive line including Will Owen, Tyler Swan, Tyler Waughtal, Eduardo Pineda, Michael MacCorey, Quinton Miranada, Stephen Small, Andy Brown and Oscar Mindiola. October 14th update: STRATFORD JV 11 ALIEF HASTINGS JV 0 The Stratford defense recorded their third shutout of the season in their defeat of Alief Hastings in a defensive struggle. The first quarter saw both teams trading possession of the ball several times, with neither team scoring. Offensive highlights from the Spartans included a 60 yard by Tim Burton, which was called back due to a penalty and a 27 yard pass from Aaron Martin to Matthew Harry. Score at the end of the first quarter: Stratford JV 0 Alief Hastings JV 0. The Spartans got off to a quick start in the second quarter with a 69 yard touchdown run by Tim Burton. The extra point kick attempt was muffed. However, Garrett Jones picked the ball up off the ground and threw a pass to a wide open Ryan Whitmire for the two point conversion. Score: Stratford JV 8 Alief Hastings JV 0. After another defensive stand by the Spartan defense, the offense took over the ball on their next possession at mid field. The Spartans moved the ball deep into Alief Hastings territory behind several good runs by Tim Burton and passes from Scott Trostle to Michael Kelly and Ben Janes. Mackie Hirsch kicked a 32 yard field goal to bring an end to the first half with the score Stratford JV 11 Alief Hastings JV 0. The scoreless second half was highlighted by a strong Spartan defense and a fumble caused by Tobias Rodriguez which was recovered by Brice Simpson. October 7th update: STRATFORD JV 28 MEMORIAL JV 0 OCTOBER 1, 2009: Memorial kicked off to Stratford to start the game. Behind passes from Aaron Martin to Garrett Jones and Mackie Hirsch and several good runs from Roddrick Taylor, the Spartans methodically drove the ball down the field. Stratford scored on a four yard pass from Aaron Martin to Garrett Jones. PAT failed. Score: Stratford JV 6 Memorial JV 0 Stratford kicked off to Memorial and they began a strong drive of their own, well into Spartan territory. The drive ended when Tobias Rodriguez intercepted a Mustang pass on the Stratford 20 and returned it to the Spartan 37. This was as close as Memorial would get to scoring for the night. The rest of the first half saw Stratford and Memorial trading several possessions without either team scoring. At the end of the first half the score was Stratford JV 6 Memorial JV 0. Stratford started their first possession of the second half on their own 10 yard line. Once again the Spartans drove the ball down the field. After a 10 yard run by Roddrick Taylor, Stratford benefited from a 15 yard face mask penalty on Memorial. Roddrick Taylor then had several more good runs including a 36 yard pickup down to the Memorial two yard line. Aaron Martin scored the touchdown on a quarterback keeper. Roddrick Taylor ran for the two point PAT. At the end of the third quarter the score was Stratford JV 14 Memorial JV 0. Stratford started their next possession on their own seven yard line. For the third time of the night, they drove the ball down the field against the Mustang defense. Highlights were passes from Aaron Martin to Garrett Jones and Ben Janes and several good runs by Roddrick Taylor, including a 37 yard run. Tim Burton ran the final two yards for the Spartan score. September 30th update: SHS JV 13 ALIEF TAYLOR JV 14 September 24, 2009: The Spartans wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Tim Burton returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Mackie Hirsch kicked the extra point – Stratford 7-0 Stratford & Alief Taylor both had several possessions the rest of the first half without either team scoring. At the end of the first half the score was Stratford 7 Alief Taylor 0. Midway through the third quarter, Michael Mandola intercepted an Alief Taylor pass and returned it to the Alief Taylor 20 yard line. Stratford was unable to move the ball and then was unsuccessful on an attempted field goal. Alief Taylor, behind two long runs, moved the ball to the Spartan three yard line, as the third quarter came to and end. At the end of the third quarter the scored remained Stratford 7 Alief Taylor 0. Alief Taylor scored early in the fourth quarter to make the score 7-6 Stratford. Then, on a freak busted extra point kick attempt, the Alief Taylor holder fielded the fumbled ball and threw a Hail Mary into a crowd in the end zone and an Alief Taylor player came down with the ball. Starting at their own 23 yard line, Stratford moved down the field behind Aaron Martin passes to Ben Janes and Garrett Jones and runs by Gerrod Bergen.
