November 4th update:
Stratford  0 – Elsik 50
The autumn sun was climbing on a crisp, clear Halloween morning – the day was beautiful for
watching football, but not so much for playing football, at least if you were a Spartan fan.
It was Saturday morning at LeRoy Crump stadium in Alief.  The game had been rescheduled due
to rain and potential flash flooding on the Thursday prior.  The players took the field and the Rams
kicked off to the Spartans.  Dante Gosa returned for 26 yards, but the Spartans lost 5 yards on the
following play.  After a 13 yard pass from Graham Baker to David Radecki, the Spartans had a first
down.  After a penalty and a failed pass, the Rams had possession.  The Rams were big and fast
and took no time to set up for what was to be a high scoring, one sided game.  After 3 more plays,
the Rams scored, and were successful in the 2 point conversion.  At the end of the first quarter,
Elsik 8            Stratford 0

The Rams were successful in pushing the Spartans back and forcing them to punt.  The Rams
once again had possession and were moving the ball.  The Spartans defense slowed them down
with team tackles, but the Rams ran a reverse and scored, with another successful 2 point
conversion, Elsik 16   Stratford 0.

Stratford started on the 20 yard line, moved the ball and chalked up a first down thanks to Dante
Gosa, who over the course of the series, broke 8 tackles.  The Rams however, stopped the
Spartans and forced a punt.  The Rams ran the ball back, but a late hit brought the ball back to the
48 yard line.  The next play was a 49 yard pass for a touchdown.  The extra point was missed.

With just over a minute left in the half, Dante Gosa chalked up a 26 yard run.  With a pass from
Graham Baker to Dante Gosa, the pass was intercepted on the 7 yard line as the clock ran out.

After a half time rest, the Spartans kicked off to the Rams who ran 65 yards for a touchdown.  With
another extra point missed, the score was Elsik 28   Stratford 0 the kickoff was returned, but
Stratford once again was forced to punt.  The Rams received the ball on the 19 yard line and on
the next play scored another touchdown, and another 2 point conversion.  Elsik 36   Stratford 0

On the kickoff, Stratford received the ball on the 32 yard line with Dante Gosa running hard and
breaking tackles for a 20 yard gain. The Spartans were successful in moving the ball to the 14 yard
line as the 3rd quarter closed.  The start of the 4th quarter saw a 76 yard pass interception,
allowing the Rams to score once again.  Although they failed the extra point attempt, the score
climbed to Elsik 42   Stratford 0

After a few fumbles by both teams, the Rams had the ball.  With just over a minute left, the Rams
ran for a 76 yard touchdown and a successful 2 point conversion, bringing the score to the half
century mark.  Final Score   Elsik 50   Stratford 0

October 28th update:
WHITE TEAM: Stratford 14    Spring Woods 18
Stratford received the kickoff and ran to the 36 yard line.  After three plays, they were out and punted
to the 47 yard line.  Spring Woods started their series with a nine yard run, and the second run
gave them a first down.  Spartan David Radecki stopped the running back in the back field for a 4
yard loss.  Spring Woods answered by moving the ball to the 28 yard line, and followed with a 20
yard run, leaving the ball on the 8 yard line. Touchdown Tigers!  The extra point attempt was
missed.  SHS 0 SWHS 6

Stratford returned the ball to the 41 yard line, but couldn’t progress down the field.  Spring Woods
started the series on Stratford’s 47 yard line, and passed for a 47 yard touchdown.  Following
another unsuccessful attempt at the extra point, the score was SHS 0 SWHS 12

Tigers kicked off, Spartans were 3 plays and out and a failed punt.  Spring Woods again moved
the ball down the field for another touchdown and another failed extra point.  SHS 0 SWHS 18

An unfortunate holding penalty brought the Spartans back to the 26 yard line.  Stratford moved the
ball to the 42 yard line and Christian Allyene ran for the first down, and then followed up with a 53
yard run to make it first and goal.  Brent Raiff passed to Trevor Jackson but the Spartans came up
short at the half.  

The Spartans came back after half time with a new attitude and kicked off to the Tigers.   Stratford
stopped Spring Woods and forced a punt.  The Spartans started at the 47 yard line and Christian
Allyene moved the ball to the 22 yard line, and followed up with a 13 yard run, a ten yard run and a
touchdown.  Although the extra point was missed, the Spartans were on the board.  SHS 6   SWHS

With just over 4 minutes left in the game, the Spartans kicked off to the Tigers who could not get
the first down and punted.  The Spartans were on the move and with Christian Allyene handling
the ball, were successful and scored another touchdown and followed up with a 2 point
conversion.  SHS 14 SWHS 18

Stratford kicked off, and hurt themselves with a penalty.  With time ticking away, the Spartans could
not recover and the Tigers ran out the clock.  Final Score SHS Spartans 14 SWHS Tigers 18

October 21st update:
Stratford 25   Northbrook 0
It was a hot, hazy day at Tully, and the Spartans were ready to battle.  Northbrook started the series
but was stopped short by Jacob Cribbs and Dante Gosa, forcing the Raiders to punt.  Christian
Allyene ran for 33 yards, then on the following play, scored the first touchdown of the game.  
Northbrook blocked the 2 point conversion attempt, setting the score at Stratford 6 Northbrook 0.

The second quarter started with a 65 yard run by Christian Allyene for a touchdown, but the
Spartans failed to score the extra point, Stratford 12  Northbrook 0.  Northbrook came back with a
40 yard pass play, but the touchdown was stopped by Alex Eggert, who ran it back 20 yards to spot
the ball on the 37 yard line.  Stratford punted.

Northbrook was moving the ball well, but John Scott stopped them again, with an interception at
the 15 yard line.  Once again Stratford punted.  With an instant replay feeling the crowd watched
as, Alex Eggert once again intercepted the ball stopping the Northbrook momentum and ending
the half with a score of Stratford 12 Northbrook 0.

As the second half opened, Christian Allyene successfully moved the ball down the field.  After a
short series, Stratford punted to Northbrook.  When the Raider Quarterback went back to pass,
Ashton Brown sacked him.  On the next pass play, David Penberthy knocked the ball out of the
Raiders hands to stop the series.

As the 4th quarter opened, the Spartans ran Christian Allyene for several 5 – 12 yard runs, and
capped it off with a 50 yard run bringing the ball to the 11 yard line.  Brent Raif passed to David
Radecki for an 11 yard touchdown, and followed up with a field goal by Christian Allyene bringing
the score to Spartans 19 Northbrook 0.

The Spartans kicked off to the Raiders, and the Raiders advanced the ball downfield to the
Raiders 45 yard line.  As the Raiders passed, Alex Eggert chalked up his third interception of the
game, giving the Spartans the ball on the 40 yard line.  Christian Allyene topped off the score with
a 60 yard run for a touchdown!  The extra point was missed, and the Spartans kicked off to
Northbrook.  After several passes by Northbrook, Alex Eggert tied the school record with another
interception for a grand total of 4 interceptions during the game!  The Spartans won with the final
score Stratford 25 Northbrook 0.

October 7th update:
Stratford 8  - Memorial 14
A hot, sticky afternoon greeted the crowd as they streamed in for what was sure to be an exciting
game.  The age old rivalry of Mustangs vs. Spartans started with a kickoff by Christian Allyene to
give Memorial possession of the ball.  It was an easy touchdown for the Mustangs, but the 2 point
conversion attempt was foiled by David Radecki in the backfield.  The Spartans held the Mustangs
6 – 0.

The Mustang kickoff was returned by Christian Allyene.  After a carry and a tackle, and an
attempted a pass to David Radecki, the Spartans punted.  After a few incomplete passes and a
quarter back sack by Graham Baker, the quarter ended 6 – 0.

The second quarter started with a few attempts at a score by the Mustangs, then a kickoff which
was recovered by Brent Raiff.  Brent threw a pass to Dante Gosa leaving the Spartans on the 39
yard line.  The touchdown drive was interrupted by a Mustang interception, and a tackle by Dante
Gosa.  With the Mustangs in possession, Ryan Jernigan led the battle with an incredible tackle,
followed by a team tackle and then by Alex Eggert running the Mustangs out of bounds.  As the
Mustangs trotted towards the goal posts, Graham Baker performed back to back tackles, but the
Mustangs had delivered the ball to the 6” line.  After a Mustang time out, Memorial scored bringing
the score to 14 – 0.  With a successful 2 point conversion, the score was 14 – 0 at half time.

After a much needed break, the Spartans took the field ready to score.  Stratford kicked off and
chalked up a few tackles by Christian Allyene, Ryan Jernigan and David Radecki.  Opportunity
knocked when the Mustangs fumbled and David Penberthy recovered!  The ball was in the
capable hands of Christian Allyene who was tackled twice, then shot up the middle for a clean
Spartan touchdown.  The 2 point conversion was successful putting the Spartans on the board
with 8 points.

It was all hands on deck as the Spartans made several great plays; tackles by David Radecki,
Ryan Jernigan, John Scott and Nick Williams, but at the end of the 3rd quarter the score remained
14 – 8.

The 4th Quarter opened with a fake punt by Christian Allyene, but the ball ended up in the hands of
the Mustangs.  After a 5 yard loss due to a penalty, the Mustangs pitched for a sweep from the 50
yard line.  A tackle was made by Christian Allyene, and then by David Radecki which led to 3 more
tackles by John Scott, David Penberthy and Dante Gosa.  The Mustangs were poised to score, but
Joseph Wilson pushed the ball carrier out of bounds followed up by a team tackle on the 8 yard
line.  Possession changed and the Spartans had the ball; Christian took the ball and was pushed
out of bounds, then tackled.  Brent Raiff tried for the score, but was sacked.  Possession changed
again, now with Mustangs holding with the ball.  After 4 missed attempts, Stratford had
possession again with 3 minutes left in the game.  Stratford was caught off sides and lost 5 yards
on the penalty.  After a few failed attempts at a score, the game ended with a Mustang victory 14 –
8.

September 23rd update:
SHS – 28  Cy Woods – 20
Thursday, September 17th the Freshman White team hosted the Cypress Woods Wildcats at the
first home game.  Tully field looked fabulous and the weather was beautiful.  The 1st Quarter
began with a quick score by Cy Woods.  The score however, was kept to 0-6, thanks to a hard hit
by John Kaminski stopping the 2-point conversion.  Stratford began a touchdown drive, but was
slapped with a holding penalty taking the wind out of their sails.  After the no yardage gain,
possession changed and Cy Wood completed a long pass only to be shut down by David
Penberthy who smash tackled to foil the td attempt.  But Cy Woods wasn’t ready to give up and
scored, following up with a 2-point conversion, closing the 1st quarter with a score of 0-14.

Cy Woods opened the 2nd quarter with a quick score, but Davis Mitcham was successful in
stopping the extra point.  Trailing behind by 20 points, Stratford came back fighting.  Matthew
Foster threw a long pass to Shogo Iwasaki who caught the pigskin on the 1 yard line and stepped
into the end zone to the deafening cheers of the Spartan fans.  Although the extra point was shut
down, the giant had been awakened and Stratford was on the board with a score of 6 – 20.  Cy
Woods had possession but David Radecki had his eye on the ball.  He shut Cy Woods down at
the 10 yard line and again on the 7 yard line, when he lifted the Cy Woods player and pummeled
him to the ground to stop the forward motion.  The possession ended when John Kaminski stuck
the Cy Woods quarterback.

It was a quick pass from Matthew Foster to Trevor Jackson, and Christian Allyene delivered the
ball to the 9 yard line on the next play.  Matthew Foster ran again; then passed to Christian for
another Stratford touchdown!  Missing the extra point brought the score to 12-20!  Cy Woods kicked
off, and Stratford deployed the team tackle method at the 38 yard line.  A beautiful long Cy Woods
pass was foiled by Brent Raif to end the first half 12-20.

As the 3rd Quarter began, John Kaminski started the party with a quarterback sack.  After a pass to
Jacob Cribbs and another to Dante Gosa, which was called back, Matthew Foster ran the ball in
bringing the score to 18 – 20.  The Spartans ran a successful 2 point conversion play and ended
the 3rd quarter with a score of 20-20.

Tension was mounting as the 4th quarter commenced.  Once again the quarter opened with a
quarterback sack by John Kaminski.  The Spartans Christian Allyene blocked a punt attempt by Cy
Woods which set them up on the 19 yard line.  After 2 attempts, the Spartans ended up on the 1
yard line.  Matthew Foster ran in the td for a score of 26 -20.  After another 2 point conversion the
score was 28-20.  Twenty unanswered points by Cy Woods left the Wildcats hungry for a score.  
After an exhausting attempt by the Spartans, the Wildcats kept moving forward, to the 45, to the 31,
to the 20 yard line!  With an interception on the 2 yard line by Brent Raif, the Spartan White team left
the field victorious.  Way to go White!

September 16th update:
WHITE TEAM  ------------  Stratford  12 – Spring 0
The first half of the game against Spring High School was a defensive battle with Christian Allyene
making good open field tackles and John Kaminski stopping the Lions behind the line.  During the
second half, the Spartan offense was successful in moving the ball with David Radecki making a
key catch to keep the touchdown drive alive.  Matthew Foster wrapped up the score with a 7-yard
run for the first touchdown.  The defense held the Lions scoreless and Christian Allyene sealed
the win with a 55-yard scoring run to finish the game with 12-0 win for the Spartans.

September 2nd update:
The Freshman White team began the game with a 73 yard opening scoring drive.  Highlights of
the drive included a 35 yard pass from quarterback Matthew Foster to Dontez Gosa followed by a
20 yard scoring romp from Christian Alleyne.  The extra point was unsuccessful.  Stratford played
good defense the rest of the first half featured by tackles for losses by Kelly Griffin, Christian
Alleyne and others.  A great punt by Mathew Foster put the Generals in a hole, and the half ended.  
Spartans 6 Generals 0.

After receiving the 2nd half kick-off, the MacArthur Generals went on a 13 play scoring drive that
took all but 20 seconds of the 3rd Quarter.  The extra point was unsuccessful thanks to a sack by
Christian Alleyne.  The Spartan’s only 4th  Quarter drive was halted by a fumble after a promising
start.  The Generals then ran out the clock, and the game ended in a tie Stratford  6   MacArthur 6.
