November 12th update:
Well it wouldn’t be rain without a cross country meet. On October 29th at rainy Bear Creek Park the
Girls' Cross Country team defeated Memorial 32 to 33 to win the district 19-5A championship. This is
only the second time that we have ever won district in Girl’s cross country with last year being the first
year. It was a true team effort as the Spartans won 3rd, 4th, 6th 9th and 10th places which as a team
game them a 32 to edge out Memorial by 1 point. The Spartans were led by sophomore Kathryn
Wood (12:49) in 3rd, 4th Sophomore Lara Samaranth(13:09), 6th Senior Shannon Linderman (13:
25), 9th Senior Jacinta Leyden(13:32) and 10th Sophomore Elise Franke(13:33).   Sophomores
Tierra Mayes (13:57.55) and Becca Jones (13:57.84) also finished 12th and 13th but only the top 5
scores count for scoring purposes.

The JV girls were not to be out done and repeated as district champions defeating Memorial by 2
points , 27 to 29. Sophomore Kellli Barranco ran away with the race winning it in a time of 13:24
almost 21 seconds faster than the 2nd place runner from Memorial. The Spartans won 1st, 3rd, 5th
7th and 11th places.   Junior Michelle Centineo (13:49.05) was 3rd, 5th Junior Cindy Tung(13:50.35),
7th Sophomore Rhinana Devaney( 14.14. 47)and 11th Freshman MacKenzie Mayo (14:47).Freshman
Fredericka Jordan placed 13th.

In the last race of the day in driving rain and wind Senior Analicia Caylor as also not to be outdone. In
her last race for Stratford she won the girl’s division of the Open Race. Way to fight Analicia we’re
proud of you!

On Saturday at Lone Star College the Girl’s Cross Country team finished 8th of 24 teams in the 5A
Regional Meet .This is the best they have ever finished in regionals. The girl’s actually tied Pearland
with 247 points for 7th place, but the tie breaker goes to lowest total time and Pearland’s total time
was 12:46.16 with Stratford’s being 12:47.66, thus putting Stratford into 8th place.   Kathryn Wood
who had been leading the Spartan runners all season did not run due to illness, but that didn’t stop
the rest of the team from running great times. Anyone who thought the district meet was a fluke last
week was soundly convinced at this meet how dominating Stratford’s girls really are. Memorial could
only manage 12th place and all 5 of Stratford’s runners were in before Memorial’s 3rd place runner
crossed the finish line.

Leading the Spartans was Senior Shannon Linderman in 33rd place out of 174 runners. Shannon
ran a 12:23 her best time for the year and she also defeated last week’s district #1 and #2 runner.
Finishing second for the Spartans also running her best time of the year by 26 seconds was
Sophomore Lara Samarraneh in 51st with a time of 12:43. Sophomore Tierra Mayes ran her best
meet of the year finishing 61st in a time of 12:53.8. Sophomore Kellie Barranco finished in 64th place
just ahead of Senior Jacinta Leyden in 65th place. Kellie ran a 12:58.4 and Jacinta 12:59 for her final
race as a Spartan. Junior Michele Centenio finished 99th with a 13:33 and Sophomore Elise Franke
ran a 13:42.

The team is blessed with lots of sophomores so this will bode well for next year’s season.
Congratulations girls!

October 30th update:

September 30th update:
On Wednesday the Girl's Cross Country team traveled to Willlis to compete in the mud and rain in the
Willls Invitational. This was a hilly course, part of the team was sick and the varsity team found out that
they had to run almost 1 1/2 hours earlier than they were scheduled to run. The varsity team finished
fifth out of 16 teams. The JV team finished 7th out of 18 teams. Top runners for varsity were Lara
Samarah and for JV Cindy Tung.

Next meet is at Lone Star College near Bush Airport on Saturday morning.

September 23rd update:
On Saturday the Girls' Cross country team ran to a second place finish out of 20 teams at the Spring
Branch Invitational Meet at Nottingham Park losing only to a good team from Cy Fair. Foster finished
third and Memorial finished fourth. Sophomore Kathryn Woods led the Spartans with a time of 12:45
and a 7th place finish. Sophomore Kellie Barranco was 13th (13:17), Senior Shannon Linderman
was 16th(13:21), Sophomore Lara Samarneh was 17th (13:24),and Sophomore Tierra Mayes 18th
(13:26). Sophomore Becca Jones(14:02) and Junior Michele Centenio(14:08) placed 29th and 32nd.

The JV team did not have enough runners to score due to the flu. That did not stop the Spartans from
winning 5th place(Sophomore RhiannaDevaney 14:11), 7th place(Freshman Emily Frazelle 14:36)
and 10th place (Junior Hannah Russell 14:43). Senior Analicia Caylor ran a 15:43 but could not be
scored in a JV race and Freshman Paige Yim recovering from the flu ran 52nd.

The team travels this week to Willis for a Thursday afternoon meet at the Bearkat Invitational.

Saturday bring your dirty cars to the Girl's Cross Country Car Wash in the Dairy Ashford Parking lot at
Stratford from 9-12.

September 16th update:
Aggieland was blessed with 3 days of rain last week soaking their intramural fields enough that the
A&M Cross Country Invitational was cancelled. Cross country usually runs in the rain as long as there
is no lightening but the Aggies were afraid 800 or more runners might tear up their rain soaked fields
so they cancelled the meet leaving another large group of disappointed runners.

The Girl's Cross Country team will run this Saturday in the Spring Branch Invitational Meet at 8 a.m. at
Nottingham Park near Stratford. Come cheer on the Cross Country team as they run against
Memorial and other district teams.

September 9th update:
The Stratford Girl's Varsity Cross Country team finished third out of 20 teams in the Lamar
Consolidated Invitational held Friday at George Park in Richmond. Senior Jacinta Leyden finished 8th
with a time of 12:46 and Sophmore Kathryn Wood was right behind her in ninth place with a time of
12:55. Sophmore Lara Samarneh finished in 17th with a time of 13:33.

The JV Girl's team finished second out of 16 teams(losing only to powerhouse Cinco Ranch)  with
only a gap of 36 seconds between our first and fifth runner. Sophmore Tierra Mayes finished 7th
despite being tripped in the first start. Tierra got back up and then in the restart ran a 14:31.6 for 7th
place. Sophmore Elise Franke finished right behind her in 8th with a time of 14:32, Junior Cindy Tung
finished 10th with a time of 14:46.Sophmore Rhianna Devany ran a 15:06 and Freshman McKenzie
Mayo ran a 15:08.

Freshman JV Runner Paige Yim was the runner of the week improving her time by 56 seconds. Way
to go Paige! Eight out of 11 runners improved their times from last week.

The team will travel to College Station this Saturday to run in the A&M Invitational at 10:40.

September 2nd update:
The Girls Cross Country team traveled to the Woodlands last Friday night to run in one of the favorite
meets under the lights in the Friday Night Lights Meet. There they were blown away-literally. During
the first race- the open race, there were about 100 people running when a huge windstorm came
across the course blowing sand, tents and toppling some race towers. Senior Analicia Coyler
finished the race in the blowing wind with a time of 16:29. After the wind came the lightening and all
races were delayed. About 2 hours later the meet was going to resume in the rain and races were
going to be combined meaning that about 400 runners would be in a race, when the lightening
returned. The meet was then cancelled and about 1500 runners went home disappointed not being
able to run.

Friday the girls travel to George Park in Richmond to run the Lamar Consolidated Meet beginning at 4.

August 27th update:
Stratford Girls Cross Country Wins Spring Creek Meet
The Stratford Girls’ Cross Country Team began this season where they ended last season winning
their first meet and defeating Memorial.  In their first meet of the season the Stratford Varsity Girls
Cross Country Team outran 3 teams and won the Spring Creek Meet by 12 points Saturday at Spring
Creek Park in Tomball. This was a hard course with hills (yes there are hills in Tomball), gravel, dirt,
and grass surfaces finishing in a 10 foot stretch of sand up hill.  Senior Jacinta Leydon won second
place in the meet with a time of 13:04, Sophomore Kathryn Wood was fourth at 13:30, Sophomores
Lara Samarneh and  Kellie Barranco came in 7th and 8th with identical 14:00 times, and Sophomore
Tierra Mayes took 10th place (14:09). Junior  Michelle Centineo  (14:43) and Becca Jones  (14:46)
also ran well for varsity. In cross country the first five runner’s scores are added together to get the
team score.  Not to be outdone Freshman Elise Franke won the JV division with a time of 14:46
outrunning a huge Memorial team.

This was a great start to the new season.  The girls will run on Friday night August 28th at the
Woodlands High School at Friday Night Lights.  This is the only cross country meet held in the
evening so come out and cheer the girls on. This is a huge meet and a great chance to see great
running.
