February 8th update:
First:
I could not attend the Stratford vs. Alief Hastings game, February 2, but many comments were
made that it was the best game the Sophomore men played this year.  Congratulations on the
win, Sophomore Men!!

Second:
SHS 66  Northbrook 57
Quarter 1 began a bit wobbly with several turnovers and then we gained control, keeping our
energy and momentum, finishing the Quarter in the lead, 19-12.  Big basket by Andrew Kim-3 pts!
Q2 the Sophomore men were on a roll as the magic hit and we couldn't miss anything!    And what
was that??  Jarvis Pruitt hit a 3 pt!  Jarvis Pruitt hit a 3!  At the end of the half, there was a scuffle
under the basket.  Northbrook player pushed Jarvis.  Jarvis turned around to say something when
he was pushed again.  The result being Jarvis got to shoot a FT, followed by 2 technicals against
Northbrook.  Drew Lindahl was elected shooter, making all 4 shots.  Half ends 48-27.
Q3 brought the Spartans out with energy and shooting skills aplenty.  Drew Lindahl could barely
be seen for all of his speed up and down the court, shooting and making basket after basket.
Game ends, 66-57.  Way to go Sophomore men!

Scoring this game:  Drew Lindahl (23), Jarvis Pruitt (12), Sullivan Barnes (10), Marc Chambers (8),
Andrew Kim (7), Sam Blackshear (3), Aaron Martin (2)

Rebounds: Sullivan Barnes (9), Jarvis Pruitt (6), Sam, Joseph Morphey and Marc Chambers (2
each)

Steals:  Drew Lindahl and Sullivan Barnes (1 each)

SHS 41 MHS 61

A much more organized game than the previous matchup vs. Memorial.  This was Isaiah Glovers
first game back after his ankle injury.  Although we never got the lead, we played hard and never
gave up to the Mustangs.  Our first score was 4.5 minutes through the first half from Sam
Blackshear on FT's.  We continued steadily but the Mustangs had us on 3's and under the basket.
The half ended with the Spartans down 19-31.
Kyle Brickhouse started us off in the 3Q with a beautiful 3 pt. basket but we had trouble continuing
that momentum.  Final score, 41-61.

Scoring in this game:  Drew Lindahl (8), Marc Chambers (7), Sam Blackshear (5), Aaron Martin,
Jarvis Pruitt, John Rogers (4 each), Kyle Brickhouse and Sullivan Barnes (3 each), Isaiah Glover
(2)

Rebounds: Jarvis Pruitt (5), Sullivan Barnes (4),
Blocks: John Rogers (4), Jarvis Pruitt (2)

SHS 56 Alief Taylor 65

Exciting game vs. Alief Taylor today!!  Too exciting to keep notes so I have just a few:
Score:
Q1 Stratford down by 2, 13-15
Q2 Stratford down by 2, 28-30
Q3 Stratford down by 3, 40-43
Q4:  Sam ties with a  2 pt. and a foul with 1:27 left in game.  With just :09 left, Drew Lindahl steals
ball and heaves to basket, nearly making it,  bouncing off back of rim taking us into OT.

OT  Spartans got behind right away by 8 pts. IN a final surge of energy,  Jarvis Pruitt came across
court  like a freight train, catching Alief Taylor by surprise knocking ball out of AT hands but it was
jsut too late to take over the game.

Game ends in a loss for Stratford, 56-65.

Scoring in this game: Jarvis Pruitt (20), Marc Chambers and Drew Lindahl (9 each), Sam
Blackshear (8), Sullivan Barnes (6), John Rogers (4)

Rebounds: Jarvis Pruitt (6), Sullivan (5), John Rogers (4),  Sam Blackshear and Drew Lindahl (3
each),

Blocks: John Rogers (6), Sam Blackshear (2), Drew and Jarvis (1 each)

January 22nd update:
January 22, vs. Strake Jesuit
The sophomore men played well with good passing and defense, keeping the score close
through the half.  Q1 ended with Spartans ahead, 12-11.  Good passing, energy and shooting took
us to the half with the Spartans down by 2, 26-28.  Marc Chamber began his first game as a
Spartan today.

Q3 has the Spartans coming out continuing their energy level and fighting for the lead.  We got
behind by as much as 10 points but Marc Chambers' back-to-back 3pt. shots quickly brought us to
within 2 points of Strake.  Joseph Morphey stood as a brick wall under the basket on defense,
shutting down several attempts by Strake to score.   Q3 ended with the Spartans down, 36-40.

The Spartans were outhustled in Q4, John Rogers fouled out and the game ended with a loss for
the Sophomore Men, 36-59.

Scoring against Strake:  Marc Chamber (12), John Rogers (10), Sam Blackshear (8), Sullivan
Barnes, Drew Lindahl and Joseph Morphey (2 each).

January 19, vs. Alief Elsik
The Sophomore men kept the game close through the first half with lots of scoring by Jarvis Pruitt,
good defense by Kyle Brickhouse and good hustle by Aaron Martin.  The half ended with the
Spartans down by just 3 pts, 29-32.

Unfortunately, the score got away from us in the 2nd half, mostly due to Elsik pressing the whole
game.  Game ended with a loss for the Spartans, 43-59.

Scoring this game:  Jarvis Pruitt (23), Sam Blackshear (6), Aaron Martin (5), Andrew Kim (3), and
John Rogers (2)

January 15th vs Spring Woods:
At the half Stratford led 36-8. Final score: Stratford wins 55-18.  Kyle Brickhouse had his high
scoring game of 6 pts.

January 15th update:
January 12th vs Northbrook
First half synopsis:  Stratford was down 11-17 at one point in the 1st half.  Then Drew Lindahl and
Sam Blackshear hit back-to-back 3 pt-ers and made several Free Throws.  John Rogers got
several good blocks on Northbrook shots and Aaron Martin scored to put us in the lead.  The half
ended with Stratford up 26-24.

Q3.  The 2nd half began with Sam Blackshear making a good pass to Aaron Martin who scored
the 2.  Sullivan Barnes made a great steal and pass allowing Drew Lindahl to score a 2 on a lay-
up.  The quarter ended with a 3 pt bucket by Sam Blackshear with 3 seconds left.

Q4  Began with another good steal by Sullivan Barnes.  Sullivan Barnes and Jarvis Pruitt on
rebounds kept the game energized.  Drew Lindahl scored first in the quarter with a baseline to
baseline 2pt., drawing the foul to make it a 3.  Game ends with a win for Stratford, 47-43.

Scoring against Northbrook:  Sam Blackshear (20), Drew Lindahl (11), Aaron Martin (7), John
Rogers (6), Sullivan Barnes (3)

January 8 vs. Alief Hastings
Q1  Lots of offense from our Spartan men but needed stronger Defense to keep Hastings from
scoring.  We began with a different line-up after losing Kelvin to the JV team.   One fun shot in this
quarter came from John rogers as he laid the ball up on the rim and the fans watched and waited
while the ball s-l-o-w-l-y  snaked the rim before finally settling into the net for 2.

Q2 Our offense kept us scoring but again we lacked the defense needed to keep Hastings away
from the lead.  Aaron Martin had a nice play when he took the ball baseline to baseline, where
Jarvis met him under the basket.  aaron handed the ball off to Jarvis who scored the 2.

Half ends with Spartans ahead, 25-22.

Q3  Hastings took the lead in first 2 minutes but only temporarily.  Sam Blackshear scored on a
reverse lay-up.  Sullivan Barnes was strong on defense with good vertical jump, knocking ball out
of Hasting players' hands.  Hastings took lead back with several 3 pt. shots.  Q3 ends with
Hastings in lead, 31-34.

Q4  Lacking rebounds and blocks, along with a lack of control on passes, Hastings kept lead.
Then, Drew Lindahl made his FT attempts.  Sullivan Barnes got the rebound, threw to Sam
Blackshear who made the 3-pt shot, putting us back in the lead with 3:30 remaining.  Then,
Hastings 3 points from the foul line put them in lead.   Sullivan Barnes on rebounds kept the ball
in the hands of SHS but some missed shooting opportunities kept us down by 2.  Game ends
with Stratford taking the loss.

Scoring against Hastings:  Sam Blackshear (15), Jarvis Pruitt (9), Drew Lindahl (7), Aaron Martin
(3), Sullivan Barnes and John Rogers (2 each)

Memorial January 5th:
MHS won versus SHS sophomores.  We'll get them next time!

Alief Taylor, January 2
It was a tough morning for the Spartans. With an early start time of noon, our players struggled to
find their energy. Although they played some good D and made good passes, they simply could
not find their shots. Fans begged the officials to remove the cellophane from the rims.

The Spartans first score came from Sam Blackshear with a 3-point halfway through Q2. We then
had a 2 minute run, during which we scored 11 points.
Sophomore Spartans scored only 25 points and took the first loss of the New Year.

Scoring in game: Sam Blackshear (10), Kelvin Rainey (8), Drew Lindahl (5), Jarvis Pruitt (1), John
Rogers (1)

North Shore Tournament, December 29-30
Game 1: Stratford vs. B.F. Terry HS/Rosenberg
Q1: Kelvin Rainey started the scoring with a 2pt. shot. The team remained steady in scoring with
the help of Isaiah Glover's athleticism, inside play by Patrick Elliot and outside play by Sam
Blackshear. Quarter ends with Stratford up 18-8.
Q2: Steals in this quarter by Sullivan Barnes and Drew Lindahl gave us plenty of opportunities for
scoring. One score causing many cheers from the fans was Aaron Martin's drive from baseline to
baseline for 2 pts. Half ends with Stratford up 29-17.
Q3: Jarvis Pruitt came out showing his great hustle on the court and Andrew Kim energized the
team right off the bench. Drew Peters' baskets pushed us well ahead with the quarter ending 50-
25.
Q4: Isaiah Glover and Sullivan Barnes kept the ball in motion with fine ball handling skills and
strong rebounds. Game ends in favor of Stratford, 56-43.

Scoring against Terry HS: Sam Blackshear and Patrick Elliot (13 Pts each), Drew Peters (10),
Jarvis Pruitt and Kelvin Rainey (6 pts each), Isaiah Glover (3), Aaron Martin and Joseph Morphey (2
each), Sullivan Barnes (1)

Game 2 vs. Port Arthur Memorial
Q1: Shooting by Jarvis Pruitt and good hustle by Sullivan Barnes kept Stratford in the lead
throughout this first quarter. Stratford up as Q1 ends, 16-11.
Q2: Kyle Brickhouse scores in key play while awaiting ball at our baseline. Stratford fell behind,
though, for first time in game with 3 1/2 minutes left in Q2. Drew Peters brought us back in the
lead. Good ball exchanges between Kelvin Rainey and Jarvis Pruitt kept us in the battle for the
lead. Half ends with Stratford up, 30-25.
Q3: Drew Lindahl came out for play with energy, keeping the ball in motion while the battle for the
lead continued. Sam Blackshear tied the game with 4:23 left in the quarter by shooting a 3 pt
basket. This half found Stratford frustrated by the swiftness of PA Memorial and too much contact
by the opposing players. Kelvin Rainey began having severe leg cramps taking him in and out of
game. Q3 ends tied, 42-42.
Q4: The game was rough with too little calls made by the refs, too much contact and more tackles
than steals. Seemed as though PA Memorial was on our players' backs more than they had their
feet on the floor. However, Stratford maintained composure, slowed the ball down and doggedly
pursued the win. Sam Blackshear tied the score on a 3 pt bucket with 6 seconds remaining to
take us into OT.
OT: Drew Peters put us back into the lead. At one point, Drew got the ball, ducked to protect as 2
red players flew over him, leaving him wide open to throw to Kelvin Rainey, who was fouled with 5
seconds remaining. Game ends in OT, 63-59. Stratford wins and moves into the Championship
game vs. North Shore.

Scoring by: Jarvis Pruitt (18), Kelvin Rainey (11), Sam Blackshear (10), Isaiah Glover and Drew
Peters (7 each), Sullivan Barnes (6), Patrick Elliot (4), Drew Lindahl (3), Kyle Brickhouse (2)

Game 3: Stratford vs. North Shore HS--Championship Game
Q1: Kelvin started off the scoring with a 3 pt basket. Patrick Elliot fought hard for rebounds, Drew
Peters got us free money at the FT line by drawing fouls and Sam Blackshear couldn't find a man
open so he shot for an NBA 3 pt basket, altogether giving us a 19-12 lead at the end of the first
quarter.
Q2: Joseph Morphey's defense held down the passing chances for North Shore. Isaiah Glover
kept speed in the game up and down the court. Patrick Elliot and Jarvis Pruitt fought hard for
rebounds. Half ends with Stratford up, 30-26.
Q3: North Shore came off the bench looking to win and quickly tied the game. Drew Lindahl's hefty
3 pt. shot put us back in the lead by 3. Drew Lindahl's plan of "taking it to the hole" drew several
fouls and added to our lead. Q3 ends with Stratford in lead, 50-46.
Q4: Stratford comes out of the huddle, ready and determined. Drew Lindahl made a key 3 pt.
bucket to tie the game at 58. Drew Peters was a huge help to our team as our inside man. With
just 4 seconds remaining, Drew Lindahl, hearing the fan's pleas for "Just one!", makes the FT to
take the Spartans out of Northshore's reach and sealed the deal. The HUGE win is Stratford's, 64-
60!!! Stratford beats North Shore to win the North Shore tournament!!!

Scoring in game 3: Drew Peters (16), Drew Lindahl (13), Kelvin Rainey (11), Sam Blackshear (10),
Jarvis Pruitt (8), Sullivan Barnes (4), Isaiah Glover (2)

January 4th update:
Ft. Bend Travis, December 19
Stratford 41    Ft. Bend Travis 42
There were no refs, few calls and even fewer time outs.  This game was a nail biter and FB Travis
came for revenge after losing to us in the first tournament of the season.  Q1 ended with SHS
behind, 8-9.   Q2 was notable for the amazing hustle by Sullivan Barnes when he went after a ball
with so much speed that he kept going nearly out the door of the gymnasium! Score at end of half
with the Spartans behind, 15-21.

Q3 showed John Rogers' blocking skills and ended with us up 31-29.  Q4 had us all on our feet,
biting our nails and begging for more time on the clock. The FB Travis players tried to best our
players in a psychological advantage with much trash talk during play. Our players did a fair job of
ignoring it and focused on winning. With just 10 seconds left, and us down by 2, Sam Blackshear
heaved a 3 pt shot while trying to earn a foul, missed the foul and instead made the basket taking
our team up by 1. With just 5 seconds remaining, FB Travis got the ball and scored 2 pts, ending
the game in a loss for Stratford 41-42. Heartbreaking!   Points in game: Sam Blackshear - 17,
Kelvin Rainey - 6, Isaiah Glover - 5, Sullivan Barnes and John Rogers - 4 each, Jarvis Pruitt - 2.

Dobie Tournament, Dec. 10-12
The Sophomore boys won the 3rd place trophy in a tournament of large, talented schools.
Congratulations Sophomores!
Game 1 vs. Clear Lake
Stratford 42    Clear Lake 29
This game was highlighted by good rebounding, great energy and funny acting. Kelvin entertained
the refs by acting out several bad calls in his attempts at overturning them.  Game 1 final score 42-
29. Stratford men move into the quarterfinals. Points tonight: Jarvis Pruitt-16, Sam Blackshear and
Kelvin Rainey - 8 pts each, Sullivan Barnes - 4, Drew Lindahl - 3, Isaiah Glover - 2, John Rogers -
1.

Game 2 vs. Cy Woods, Friday Dec. 11
Stratford 48     Cy Woods 44
Tonight's game began slow but with nice blocks by Jarvis Pruitt, good steals by Kelvin Rainey and
Drew Lindahl. Kelvin showed his ball handling skills when he slipped in the 1st quarter yet never
stopped dribbling the ball! John Rogers was noticeable for his blocks.

Isaiah Glover's steals in the 2nd and 3rd quarter kept the game energized. Lots of good defense
kept scoring chances down. Quarter 2 ended with SHS in lead 22-21, Quarter 3 ended in a tie 37-
37. Sam Blackshear's 3-3pt. shots help the team out at key times.   Final score: 48-44 and
Stratford moves into the semi-finals.   Pts in game: Kelvin Rainey-20, Sam Blackshear-10, Jarvis
Pruitt-6, Kyle Brickhouse and John Rogers- 4 each, Isaiah - 3, Drew Lindahl - 2

Game 3 vs. North Shore
North Shore 67    Stratford 33
This game was a big challenge for the Sophomore men. The North Shore full court press gave us
trouble and several times we took timeouts to regroup as a team. North Shore took the lead and
kept it throughout game. Sam Blackshear was a standout with five-3pt buckets.
Final Score: 67-33, Stratford moves into the bracket for 3rd place.  Points in game: Sam
Blackshear - 15, Kelvin Rainey - 7, Jarvis Pruitt - 6, Isaiah Glover - 3, John Rogers - 2.

Game 4 vs. Pasadena Memorial (Playing for 3rd place in tournament)
Stratford 49      Pasadena    42
Stratford showed better passing in today's game and ended the half 29-18.  Second half began
slow but we kept the lead and finished with a win 49-42.  The Sophomore boys placed 3rd--a
huge win in this talented pool of large schools.   Points in game: Sam Blackshear - 14, Drew
Lindahl, Kelvin Rainey and John Rogers- 8 each, Jarvis Pruitt-7, Sullivan Barnes - 4.   Way to Go!
3rd place win, Sophomore Men!!

December 2nd update:
Stratford 69   Cy Ridge 49
On Tuesday before Thanksgiving the sophomore men played Cy Ridge at Cy Ridge high school.

It was a tough game for focus with the holiday looming in front of the boys.  That said, the boys
began the lead and maintained throughout the game.  Good speed was evident in both Isaiah
Glover and Kelven Rainey.

The half ended with Stratford up 20-14.  In the 3rd Q, Cy Ridge attempted a comeback within the
first minute but our shooting took off with much help from Jarvis Pruitt and we moved ahead by
10pts with less than 2 minutes left in 3Q, and continued to add until the quarter ended 49-35.  4th
Quarter was marked by excellent scoring by Sullivan Barnes and Kelven Rainey, moving us ahead
20 pts and ending the game 69-49.

Scoring in this game:  Kelven Rainey (18pts), Jarvis Pruitt (13pts), Sam Blackshear (11pts),
Sullivan Barnes (6 pts), Drew Lindahl and Joe Johns (5 pts each), Aaron Martin (4 pts), Isaiah
Glover (3 pts.), Kode Agbasi and Andrew Kim (2 pts each)

November 29th update:
Stratford beats Atascocita:
The Sophomore men played Atascocita in the main gym. The game began slow and found us
behind 4-8 by the end of the first quarter with Sam Blackshear scoring all 4 pts.
The second quarter took off and the game ran close, often tied, but Stratford finally solidified the
lead with 2-3pt buckets by Sam Blackshear. The half ended with Stratford ahead 22-17.
Stratford remained in the lead throughout the 2nd half due to Jarvis Pruitt's offense, Drew
Lindahl's ability to move the ball up and down the court and Sullivan Barnes' strong rebounds. 3rd
quarter ended 32-26.
Good hustle by Isaiah Glover, Kyle Brickhouse, Andrew Kim and Kelven Rainey! Joe Johns wins
the award for Tenacious Defense. Joe did a great job irritating Atascocita's star player with his
under and over moves.
Key to the win in this game was the excellent foul shooting by our sophomore men!
Lead scorers: Sam Blackshear (22 pts) and Jarvis Pruitt (12 pts

Sophomore Boys SBISD Tournament, November 20-21
Game 1:
On Friday evening, the sophomore guys took on the Sam Rayburn Texans in game 1 of
the SBISD tournament.  The first quarter ended with a tie of 8-8.  Stratford took the lead in the
second quarter with a score by Jarvis Pruitt.  Solid rebounds by Sullivan Barnes allowed us to
move ahead and ended the half 18-10.   The 3rd quarter began with scoring from Kelven Rainey in
Free Throws and ended with the Spartans ahead 32-22.   Final score of game:  47-28.

Top scorers were Kelven Rainey (15pts), Jarvis Pruett (9pts) and Sam Blackshear (8pts).  Great
defense by Isaiah Glover, Drew Lindahl and Sullivan Barnes.  Stratford moves on to the Saturday
games in the winner’s bracket.

Game 2:  Took place at Northbrook against Ft. Bend Austin at 10:30am.  First Quarter  was low
scoring as the boys took some time waking up for this game.   End of first quarter score 4-1 with
Stratford taking the lead and keeping it throughout the game.  2nd quarter brought life from our
boys, finding them strong on rebounds and some great defensive moves by Sullivan Barnes.  Half
ended with Stratford in lead 19-9.  3rd quarter showed more strong offense and defense.  Jarvis
Pruitt and Sullivan Barnes maintained strong defense and offense.  Drew Lindahl pushed Austin’s
defense hard with his quick-footed offense.  3rd quarter ended 32-22.  Stratford continued with
strong offense and rebounds to end the game 51-34.  Top scorers were Jarvis Pruitt and Sullivan
Barnes.

Game 3: Championship  Again took place at Northbrook.  3:00pm against Ft. Bend Travis Tigers.
This is the team that knocked Memorial into the consolation bracket.  They proved a tough
opponent for us in a game that became a physical neck-and-neck matchup.

Every SHS man was needed for this win and every man played his part.

1st Quarter ended with the Tigers in the lead 17-13.

2nd Quarter fouls took us into a 1on1 situation with free throws early in 2nd quarter.  Tigers
maintained lead at end of half, 23-20.

Stratford came out fired up and Drew Lindahl tied the game 23-23 with a 3pt. bucket.   It quickly
became a tough quarter, however, when rebounds became difficult to come by and several
players went into foul trouble.   Again, Tigers had lead at end of quarter, 43-34.

Quarter 4 became very physical and tense.  The Spartans battled hard and came from behind 10
pts to tie game within final minutes then fell back by 2 with 15 seconds remaining.  Kelven Rainey
was fouled and made both key free throws to tie the game at 51-51.  Tigers were unable to
answer those points with seconds remaining and the game moved into overtime.

OT: Final 4 minutes were again physical and tense.  Stratford remained ahead most of the OT play
with 9 points scored by Sam Blackshear.  OT win, and game win, 62-59.

Top scorers  of the Game 3:  Sam Blackshear (24 pts), Kelven Rainey (19 pts).  Other key scorers:
Drew Lindahl (7 pts), Sullivan Barnes (6 pts) Isaiah Glover (4 pts).  Great defense by Isaiah Glover,
Sullivan Barnes and Joe Johns

Stratford 31   Klein  44
Klein was first to score and stayed on top the whole game.  The boys were behind by as much as
13 points in the first half, but were able to pull within 9 by the end it. The first quarter started cold
and ended with Klein up 12-5.
The 2nd quarter started off with Sam Blackshear hitting a 2 pt, followed quickly by a 3 pointer but
the Spartans remained scoreless afterwards ending the half 19-10.

John Rogers and Drew Lindahl came on strong in the second half in defense and offense. The
Spartans' shooting improved in the second half, with many of the boys scoring, bringing the final
score to 44-31, unfortunately still in Klein's favor.  Leading scorers for the game against Klein
were John Rogers with 8 and Sam Blackshear with 7.
