March 9th update:
Sophomore – Katy 8  Stratford 0
The Spartan sophomores left their bats on the bus for the first game of the Katy Sophomore
tournament. The Katy Tigers limited the Spartans to two singles by Shogo Iwasaki and Tomo
Yagasaki. The Tigers scored three runs in the first and three runs in the second. Shogo Iwasaki
came on to pitch in the third inning and limited the Tigers to one hit and two runs over the final four
innings.
Sophomore – Stratford 8  Cypress Ridge 6
Landon Nuemann woke up the Spartan bats in the second game of the tournament with a double
off the left-center field fence in the first inning. He eventually scored the first run of the tournament
when he was knocked in by Jimmy Hodges. The Spartans had 10 hits in all. Jordan Bernstein had
a single and a double and four RBI’s to lead the offensive attack Jimmy Hodges contributed 3 hits
to the attack, including two doubles. Matthew Foster started and allowed four runs over four innings
to earn the win. Daniel Tomlinson pitched the final two innings to earn the save.
Sophomore – Cinco Ranch 11  Stratford 1
The Cinco Ranch Cougars were rude hosts in the third game of the Katy Tournament. The two
Cinco Ranch pitchers combined to strike out 12 Spartans. The Spartans did score one run on
walks to Brad Johnson and Will Maham and a single by Kyle Casanover. John Scott worked hard to
pitch 3 1/3 innings and keep it as close as possible against a good hitting team.
Sophomore – Lamar Consolidated 8  Stratford 3
The final game of the Katy Sophomore tournament started out as a pitcher’s duel. Graham Jones
started for the Spartans and pitched 3 innings allowing only one hit and no runs. The Spartans
were able to scratch out three runs on only three hits, one each by Matthew Foster, Jordan
Bernstein and Troy Rucker. The Spartans were down by one run going into the bottom of the sixth
but Lamar Consolidated scored four runs in the bottom of the inning and ran out the remaining
time on the game clock.
